Notes from our D2 speakers at the Annual Meeting

Ron Marfil (Mentor Program Coordinator)

Ron gave an overview of the 2009 memorandum, the memo on hair control devices, review some of the new procedures, and encourage all the referees to review the 10 major directives for US soccer. He specifically pointed out the directive of no contact above the shoulder.  All this information is posted on Almaden website (www.alamdensoccer.org) under referee information/Laws

Tom Dunlap (Abronzino Referee Director / Youth Referee Administrator)

Tom explained the District youth referee award and what our youth officials needed to do to be considered. He shared that the district award had been given to an Almaden official 3 times in the last four years. He encourages our youth referees to contact the AVYSL assignor if they’re interested in being considered for this prestigious award.  He also explain the new CYSA directive Ask, Tell, Remove which is posted on our website. This new procedure is being shared with coaches along with Referee’s as a process in dealing with Coach send-off’s.  Please read this document.

Almaden Uses RefTalk System For Its YRDP Program

For many of you who watch pro soccer have noticed that the officials on the field are wearing a communication system that allows them to communicate with each other during the game.   Almaden has just purchased its first set of these communicators (same units used in MLS) to be used in its YRDP (Youth Referee Development Program). The units have been used for the last couple weekends in numerous games and have shown to be an excellent tool in working with our newer and less experienced youth officials during game time.   We have noticed that the confidence level of the younger official is boosted when they have that lifeline to the advisor official.

Almaden is working to encourage their YRDP advisors to pick up a set of these communicators for the upcoming fall season. Of course the units are not cheap and therefore Almaden is working on a reimbursement incentive to help offset the majority of the cost. The units would be a property of the official who could use them when and wherever they like including games and tournaments.

Details of this program will be sent to YRDP advisors and those who have an interest in participating in the YRDP program. The units are NOT REQUIRED for you to be an YRDP advisor for Almaden.

If you have an interest in the YRDP advisor program, please contact me.
